1. Ordering, Payments, & Shipping (25)
When making a payment with a deposit slip, please write the order number on the slip and either take a digital photograph or ask the bank to make a photocopy.
After making payment, please go to http://verify.cointerra.com, enter your order confirmation details and upload the photograph or a scan of the deposit slip as proof of payment. We will then be able to more quickly associate the payment with your order and update our records when we have confirmed receipt of funds.
BitPay is compatible with all of the Bitcoin technical standards. However, not all Bitcoin wallets are compatible with the rest of the Bitcoin network. Some wallets do not send the transaction immediately, and some wallets deduct a fee from the transaction and send less than the requested amount. For that reason, please use a BitPay compatible wallet on this list.
Please note that during the payment transaction, your Bitcoins are converted into US dollars by BitPay and Coinbase. We do not receive Bitcoins directly.
Due to the complexities of processing orders in which payment is split between wire transfer and Bitcoin, we no longer accept orders of this type. If you are unable to place an order with either one or the other payment method, please contact customer support.
When an pre-order is placed it is categorized in our system as “being On Hold” until such time payment has been received. Once payment is confirmed as having been received in our bank account its status will be updated to “Processing”, where it will remain until shipping/collection. Please note that if payment of an “On Hold” pre-order is not received within seven business days it will be cancelled.
Orders are taken and fulfilled within each batch on a first-come-first-served basis. We do not offer a way to pay for a preferential position in each batch queue.
You need to place an order to make an account. During the checkout process you will be prompted to enter your details and an account will be automatically created.
If you wish to discuss volume sales please contact [email protected] stating the specific nature of your inquiry and a representative will get in touch.
2. Configuration (10)
Out miners do not have built-in Wi-Fi capability. They have a standard Ethernet port which connects via a standard RJ-45 Ethernet cable.
It is possible to connect a wireless-to-Ethernet adapter to any Ethernet device to make it wireless. However, we do not recommend using a wireless or cellular internet connection, as the connection to the internet may be less reliable than a wired connection and may result in data loss.
If you have a typical broadband connection then you should not need to upgrade your internet speeds in order to mine. Mining does not use significantly more data than a typical user consumes with their normal internet usage.
If your miner is connected to your local network then it is as secure as any other device on your network, dependent on the level of protection you have installed (e.g. behind a router or firewall.)
Access to your TerraMiner’s software control panel is restricted by a username and password, which should be unique and kept as secure as any other important passwords that you have.
Yes, you can select any mining pool(s).
Yes, by adding rack slides (rails) the miner can be mounted in a standard server cabinet which can accommodate 4U/2U server chassis. Slides are screwed to the chassis and they mount to the rack. A regular 42U cabinet can accommodate 10 TerraMiners or 21 AIRE Miners.
You can connect the miner to regular wall outlets. However the TerraMiner IV has two power supplies and two power cords in the unit which you need to connect to two separate outlets. If the power circuits in your location cannot take the required amperage then you will need to connect the TerraMiner to two separate circuits. If you overload a circuit (e.g. the TerraMiner or other electrical devices exceed the amperage capacity for the circuit) you will trip the circuit breaker in your location which would need to be reset.
To calculate the amperage you should divide the estimated power consumption per power supply by your voltage. For example, in the USA at 110v it would be ~1100/110 = ~10 amps per power supply. In most of Europe the calculation at 230v would be ~1100/230 = ~4.78 amps per power supply. The circuits which you connect each power supply to should be able to deliver a minimum of these amperage values. If you have any other electrical equipment on the same circuit it should be factored into the calculation to ensure that you do not overload the circuits.
Customers in the United States with a 220V circuit (e.g. often installed for powering a washer/dryer) can connect the TerraMiner to it in order to reduce the amperage requirement.
As a safety precaution you should never connect your TerraMiner to an electrical power strip or extension cable which is not rated for at least 10 amps per power cable/cord.
If you wish to connect your miner to a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) you need to ensure that it is rated to take the power draw of the miner. UPS devices are usually rated in volt-amperes (VA), so you will need to check the specification of the UPS to ensure that it can accommodate the draw at your location. You may need two UPS units on two separate power circuits, depending on your location’s power circuit specification.
For the 1.6TH/s TerraMiner you will need a UPS that can handle 1100 watts per power supply (x2).
For the 2.0 TH/s TerraMiner you will need a UPS that can handle 1200 watts per power supply (x2).
For the AIRE Miner you will need a UPS that can handle 1300 watts.
Our miners have been designed to operate 24 hours a day, provided it is located in a suitable operating environment.
The optimal environment for optimal performance would be a data center, due to the air filtering, power conditioning, etc. You should be able to host your miner at any data center which hosts 4U/2U servers.
** Please note that since a power supply is not included with the AIRE Miner you may need check with your data center for any limitations they may impose.
3. TerraMiner Specifications (23)
The TerraMiner IV is powered by 4 of CoinTerra’s proprietary GoldStrike I ASICs, a 28nm chip with a nominal performance rating of 500GH/s (0.5TH/s).
The TerraMiner has a BeagleBone Black controller running a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 with 512MB RAM and 2GB onboard flash memory. You can find out more about the board here.
The TerraMiner has a built-in controller card which runs an embedded version of CGminer.
No, the TerraMiner only needs the embedded CGminer in order to mine.
The TerraMiner has a custom embedded build of Linux on its BeagleBone Black controller board.
Yes, it is possible to root the TerraMiner with SSH access. Please note that rooting the TerraMiner or modifying the embedded software in any way will invalidate your warranty.
Yes, the TerraMiner does support Stratum.
The TerraMiner User Guide is available to view and download here. Configuration is very straightforward: You connect to the TerraMiner’s Control Panel via a standard web browser (e.g. on a PC or Mac) connected to the same local network and enter your mining pool information in order to get started.
Once your TerraMiner is configured you can leave it connected to a permanent internet connection on your network. You do not need to remain connected to it from a browser/computer.
No, the TerraMiner is a standalone unit: Once it has been configured you only need to leave it connected to your network. No monitor or other peripherals are required.
The TerraMiner ships with two standard power cords (IEC 60230-1 C13), commonly referred to as “computer power cords” with US-specification three-pin plugs. If you are located outside the USA and your outlets have a different socket configuration you will need to either use plug adapters, or obtain two standard 3-pin power cords (each rated at 10 amps or more.)
The TerraMiner unit weighs ~30lbs (~13.5kg) and its shipping weight (including packaging) is ~35lbs (~16kg.)
Currently we only offer the TerraMiner in its stylish black and aluminum livery.
The TerraMiner is a standard 4U server form factor. Its dimensions are 19″ x 7″ x 17.8″ (48.25cm x 17.8cm x 45.2cm.)
The TerraMiner is designed to operate in a “desktop” (i.e. horizontal) position. It is supplied with four feet which attach to threaded holes on the bottom of the chassis.
The TerraMiner has two Power-One 80 PLUS certified “Platinum” efficiency power supplies. They have a wide input voltage range of 90-264 VAC. The normal operational range is 110v to 240v, so it will work at all the standard voltages around the world (110v, 120v, 220v, 230v and 240v). The datasheet for the power supplies can be found here.
The TerraMiner consumes an estimated 2.1kWh (2100Wh) under normal operation.
The TerraMiner IV incorporates two self-contained Direct Contact Liquid Cooling (DCLC) systems designed and manufactured by CoolIT Systems which attach to each of the GoldStrike I ASICs to perform the primary cooling. In addition, five 120mm cooling fans (two at the front, three at the rear) move air through the unit.
No, the CoolIT unit is a completely sealed self-contained maintenance-free system.
The fans vary their speed, and thus the amount of noise they make, depending on the temperature of the unit. When providing maximum cooling they can produce between 50dB and 77dB peak.
The TerraMiner has an ambient operational range of 0°-35° Celsius (32°-95° Fahrenheit.)
The TerraMiner should operate perfectly well under normal environmental conditions; however, as its powerful ASICs dissipate an estimated 2100W (7170 BTUs), in a warm climate you need to consider the surrounding ambient temperature.
You should also consider the same environmental factors that you would with a desktop computer, e.g. making sure that the fans do not get clogged with dust or pet dander to ensure optimal operation of the fans, keep the ambient (room) temperature between 0° and 35°C (32°-95°F) and avoid a humid environment.
4. AIRE Miner Specifications (9)
1) A controller. This controller must remain on network 24/7 in order to control the AIRE Miner. This can be satisfied by any PC or single-board computer such as a Rasberry Pi, Beaglebone, or similar. The Beaglebone Black is the controller used in the TerraMiner IV.
2) Supported mining software running on the controller. We internally use CGMiner, but many others may work.
3) A power supply with standard PCIe 6-pin connectors capable of sustaining 1350 (+ 0 to 10%) of power This can be split to more than one power supply if preferred.
The AIRE Miner will not ship with a power supply or power cords.
No power supply will be included with the AIRE Miner.
The AIRE Miner will consume an estimated 1350 kWh (+ 0-10%) under normal operation.
The AIRE Miner is cooled by four 80mm fans in the front of the case that push air through one or more heatsinks and out the back of the unit.
The TerraMiner should operate perfectly well under normal environmental conditions; however, as its powerful ASICs dissipate an estimated 1350W (4610 BTUs), in a warm climate you need to consider the surrounding ambient temperature.
You should also consider the same environmental factors that you would with a desktop computer, e.g. making sure that the fans do not get clogged with dust or pet dander to ensure optimal operation of the fans, keep the ambient (room) temperature between 5° and 30°C (41°- 85°F) and avoid a humid environment.
5. About CoinTerra (8)
We are a team of highly experienced ASIC designers made up of alumni from tech industry giants including Intel, Samsung, Apple and Nvidia. You probably already own extremely high performance video cards, PCs, smart phones and tablets containing CPUs and GPUs that we designed in our previous lives. But now we’ve banded together to focus our formidable expertise on revolutionizing Bitcoin mining technology.
Our philosophy is simple: We have set out to harness our collective expertise in order to design state-of-the-art highly optimized silicon which pushes the 28nm process to its limits in order to provide the best price/performance proposition with the lowest power consumption per Gigahash available.
In a nutshell, it’s all about design and optimization. We’ve spent longer in design and have tuned the GoldStrike I chip to be more efficient, with higher performance and lower power than our competitors.
Our strategy has always been to design the very best chip that is possible in the 28nm process node. Our competitors’ strategy was focused on racing to market and in that respect it has been successful – they will ship first, and we won’t. Put simply, there’s a trade-off that is made in order to launch quickly, and they have sacrificed performance and efficient power consumption to enable them to hit their release date. They have said that if they had more time they would’ve made a better chip. Well, we spent more time, and we did design a better chip!
CoinTerra successfully raised its seed capital from angel investors in the Bitcoin and general technology sectors. As with other ASIC companies before us, we offer pre-orders in order to generate further cash flow for our initial production run, and it will be well worth your while to consider this option in order to get the very best value for your money.
Only you can make that determination. We strongly recommend that you look on our website at the people behind CoinTerra, use your favorite search engine to do some research on the company and its management team and then make up your mind based on their individual track records and CoinTerra’s reputation in the Bitcoin mining community.

7. Miscellaneous (7)
We do not make predictions or offer indications of how many Bitcoins can be produced per day / week / month, as the fundamentals of Bitcoin mining means that it is not accurately predictable. Many variables will continuously affect the potential return on investment of Bitcoin mining, such as total hash power on the network, difficulty, operating costs (electricity, equipment),mining pool fees, and of course the market value of Bitcoins.
When you join a mining pool, the frequency of successfully mining Bitcoins increases significantly and this is why the vast majority of people choose to join a pool and everybody in that pool shares the rewards.
A few of the sites which we suggest you begin your research into the Bitcoin ecosystem are:
http://weusecoins.com A great resource for people new to Bitcoin.
http://bitcoin.org Useful information and tools for getting started.
http://coindesk.com Popular Bitcoin news site which is more mainstream than most.

http://bitcoinmagazine.com The most popular Bitcoin-related magazine.
http://thegenesisblock.com Extensive Bitcoin information and news.
(Please note that CoinTerra, Inc. does not endorse any of these sites. They are suggested purely for informational purposes only.)
Yes, you can mine any coin based on SHA-256, which is the same protocol at Bitcoin. You can view a list of SHA-256 coins at CoinChoose by clicking on ‘Algo’ to sort the list.
No, the TerraMiner is custom-designed to mine only SHA-256 Bitcoin compatible cryptocurrencies. It does not mine LiteCoin (LTC) or other scrypt-based coins.
We have not made any announcements regarding a scrypt mining product at this time.
We are no longer selling the TerraMiner II model. The vast majority of our customers have ordered the TerraMiner IV so we decided to focus on that model for all future orders.
